Focus 40 - Day 24

Revelation 22:16
“I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”
The Bright and Morning Star
There are several words in the Greek language which combined to bring us the concept that Christ as the Bright and Morning Star.
1.       Aster is the Greek word used for star in Rev. 22:16 combined with the objectives bright and morning. Bright indicates Christ’s dominance, and morning indicates newness or freshness.
2.       The Greek word phosphoros is translated day star in 2 Peter 1:19. It means light-bearing. The word is also used as window.  Jesus is the window of God, opening to all of us God’s glowing freshness.
3.       The word anatole, occurs in Luke 1:78. It is translated “Dayspring from on high”.
As a whole, when Jesus refers to himself as the Bright and Morning Star, He is providing us with a threefold vision of His nature.
1.       His brightness evidences that the darkness of our sin cannot prevail.
2.       His shining declares that a new day is at hand as we move into His light
3.       His radiance announces that His coming is at hand.

How appropriate that the name of Jesus, our Morning Star brings our hearts into alertness as we move into our day awakened in the power or Christ’s presence. We are to take His light into the darkness we encounter, whether on the job, in school, or throughout our neighbor.  Jesus said “You are the light of the World” Matt. 5:14.  We are surrounded by people who “sit in darkness or we look and see the shadow of death. To live in Jesus name is to take the bright and morning star into all circumstances of life.
We see in the book of Psalms “early will I seek you….” Psalm63:1, Psalm 57:8. The phrase literally means “from the very early of dawn will I hunger after you.”  What a great way to start your day seeking after the Bright and Morning Star. And as you awaken in His presence, remember that nothing contributes more to powerful prayer for personal awaking than praise.
