Focus 40 - Day 31

Matthew 25:10
“And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.”
Christ the Bridegroom
Affection is at the heart of the character of God, and at the heart of God’s affection is the word redemption. Redemption, Christ’s act of purchasing our salvation on the cross, is an outflow of God’s infinite love and affection for man. This was revealed in His desire to find a Bride for His Son, Jesus Christ. It is in this context that we look to Jesus, the Bridegroom (Matt. 25:10.) Christ’s title the Bridegroom appears in one of our Lord’s parables where He instructs His followers to be prepared for His return. In the likening the Church to the bride awaiting the sudden surprise appearance of her expected groom, Christ gives a tender portrayal of one aspect of His relationship with us.
To live today in Jesus’ name, our Bridegroom is to renew our romance for Christ. And just as romance in a marriage is renewed by spending concentrated time with our mate, so must we take time to fellowship lovingly with our Lord. Romance demands attention, and attention cultivates affection. All of His affection for us culminates in His desire to “come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also (John 14::3).
