Focus 40 - Day 10

Exodus 15:26
Lord Who Heals

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

God told Israel He wanted to spare them the numerous diseases that had plagued Egypt (Ex. 15:22-27). Just three days earlier the children of Israel were standing at the edge of the Red Sea; the Egyptians were breathing down their neck; they began to move as God had commanded them to do. They began to travel and found themselves in the midst of the desert heat and no water. When they finally found water they were at the pool of Marah.  They quickly discovered the water was unfit to drink and Moses cried out. The Lord showed him a branch and at the obedience of Moses when he tossed it into the water, the water was made clean. Immediately God tells Moses - listen to My voice, do what is right in My eyes, if you pay attention to My commands and keep My decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the God who heals you.
“The Lord who Heals” comes from the Hebrew Jehovah-Rapha, meaning literally “the Lord Healer”. It is also translated the physician. What a revelation knowing that the Lord is our healer once we have become ill, but that He will also prevent illness from coming our way in the first place. So Jesus not only heals but sustains, but also directs us into health. The Lord begins to speak to you and to me. First, that our body is His temple, Christ lives in us (1 Cor. 6:19-20). If we neglect the wisdom we have been given, or remove ourselves from wise counsel, if we harbor unforgiveness or bitterness in our hearts, all of these can cause sickness in our lives. He is God, he has promised physical healing and spiritual healing. He restores your wounded heart (Luke 4:18). The Psalmist David says, “ He forgives all my sins, and heals all my diseases” Ps. 103:3
In praying Jehovah-Rapha, “the Lord Healer” you must recognize that satan is the prince of sickness and death. It is he who comes to kill and to destroy. In James 4:7 the Word tells us to “Resist”, the devil. In Eph. 6:11 Paul tells them to stand against the wiles or to stand against the methods of the evil one. Satan is working his way to blur your vision, to keep you from claiming the Promises of God, and obeying the word of the Lord He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."

Amen
